alert! The Food and Drug Administration detected contraband in some diet pills

[China Pharmaceutical Network Health and Health] Recently, the food and drug supervision department found that there were illegal activities of adding weight loss products such as sibutramine hydrochloride and phenolphthalein, and investigated the illegal behavior. Experts remind consumers to rationally take weight loss health foods. Take it strictly in accordance with the approved instructions and cannot replace the normal diet.

Prohibited drug 1: Sibutramine hydrochloride

For sibutramine hydrochloride, everyone may be familiar with it. The famous brand “Qumei” has launched a diet drug called “Sibutramine Hydrochloride Capsule”, which has also been featured in major media. This is a good time, but due to the control of sibutramine hydrochloride in China, this product was eventually forced to be removed in 2010. In addition, Chang'ao Pharmaceuticals is also the same.

Sibutramine hydrochloride is a central nervous system suppressor that has been used in the treatment of obesity. It was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1997 and subsequently approved for listing in the European Union, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries. It was listed in China in 2000.

In December 2009, the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) released a study showing that patients taking sibutramine hydrochloride had an increased risk of serious, nonfatal cardiovascular events compared with placebo. The EU, the United Kingdom and other countries and regions have stopped using sibutramine hydrochloride drugs. The former State Food and Drug Administration also organized relevant experts to evaluate the safety of sibutramine in China, and believed that the risk of weight loss treatment was greater than the benefits, and in October 2010 notified the request to stop production and sales using Xibuqu Ming preparations and raw materials. Currently, sibutramine hydrochloride has been discontinued as a weight-loss drug in most countries around the world.

Sibutramine hydrochloride can easily lead to dry mouth, anorexia, insomnia, constipation and persistent high body temperature. If you have the above symptoms after taking food (health products), you should pay attention to whether the food ingredients contain such illicit drugs.

Prohibited drugs 2: phenolphthalein

Phenolphthalein is a chemical and clinical prescription drug. It has strict indications and needs to be applied under the guidance of a doctor. If it is taken over a long period of time, it may cause serious side effects.

Phenolphthalein is a pharmaceutical raw material in pharmaceuticals. Its drug name is phenolphthalein tablets, which are mainly used to treat habitual and intractable constipation. Excessive or long-term abuse can cause metabolic disorder in the body's electrolytes and can even induce arrhythmias in severe cases. Infants and lactating women are banned, and children and pregnant women should be used with caution.

For the above two illegal drugs, Article 38 of the current Food Safety Law of China clearly stipulates that “medicines that are produced and operated shall not be added with drugs, but substances that are both traditional foods and Chinese herbal medicines may be added”. Sibutramine hydrochloride and phenolphthalein are not substances that are both food and Chinese medicine, and are prohibited from being added to foods (including health foods).

The regulatory authorities regard it as the focus of sampling inspection and daily supervision. Once the sibutramine hydrochloride or phenolphthalein hydrochloride is added to the food (including health food), it will be severely punished. If it is suspected of committing a crime, it will be transferred to the public security organ. At the same time, it also reminds consumers that if they find food (including health food) illegal and illegal, they can call 12331 to report to the local food and drug supervision and management department.
