Japanese new technology can diagnose pancreatic cancer early through blood

Release date: 2016-06-12

The research team at the University of Tokyo in Japan recently announced that they have successfully developed new technologies for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer through blood tests. Relevant research results have been published in well-known medical journals in the United States.

Diagnosing cancer at an earlier stage allows patients to receive treatment as soon as possible and improve their outcome.

The research team led by Prof. Kishikawa of the University of Tokyo has focused on ribonucleic acid (RNA), which has more ribonucleic acid in the blood than healthy people. Researchers have developed specific substances that attach to ribonucleic acid and successfully measure ribonucleic acid content from small amounts of blood.

A survey of patients with pancreatic cancer and healthy people (60 in total) found that the amount of ribonucleic acid in the blood of patients is 5-6 times that of healthy people. Even in patients with benign tumors who are likely to develop pancreatic cancer, the amount of ribonucleic acid in their blood will increase significantly.
