Upstream: oligopoly, Illumina one big
At the top of the industrial chain are manufacturers of gene sequencers and sequencing reagent consumables. When developing a sequencer, companies usually design sequencing reagents and consumables. Therefore, the core of the upstream competition in the sequencing industry lies in the competition of the sequencer. This is also the highest part of the entire industry chain barrier.
At present, the major foreign companies are Illumina, Thermo Fisher and Roche. In 2013, Illumina occupied 71% of the global sequencing instrument market; Thermo Fisher took the second place with 16% market share; Roche ranked third, market share The rate is 10%. The global market share of the first two sequencer companies is close to 90%, and the genetic sequencer industry has formed an oligopoly.
In the following years, with the continuous upgrading and promotion of the HiSeq series of sequencers, Illumina continued to erode the remaining market share and gradually formed a unique situation. As of 2016, Illumina's market share has grown to 84%, and TOP2's share of the company is close to 95%.

Midstream: Gene sequencing services have great potential
Different from the upstream unskilled and capital-intensive situation, the technical barriers in the middle reaches are relatively low, and the capital investment requirements are relatively low. It is the fastest growing field in the current genetic sequencing industry chain, and its application scenarios run through early screening of diseases and diseases. The whole process of assisted diagnosis and disease accompanying diagnosis is expected to become the gold standard for disease diagnosis - disease diagnosis.
Among them, the field of reproductive health makes the most mature application fields of gene sequencing technology, including pre-pregnancy detection, embryo transfer screening, non-invasive prenatal diagnosis, neonatal single genetic disease detection, especially non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPT). One of the most mature markets. The major US companies are Sequenom, Verinata Health, Ariosa Diagnostics and Natera.
In the domestic market, the development of sequencing services has also entered a stage of white-hot. As of the end of 2016, there are 233 companies providing gene sequencing services in the country, mainly in the North-Shangguang, Jiangsu-Zhejiang area, and highly concentrated in first- and second-tier cities. Huada Gene, Bohai Gene, and Burning Stone Medicine are the representatives; the Yangtze River Delta region is represented by Jikai Gene and Bohao Medicine; in Beijing, there are mainly Berry and Kang, Annoyouda, and Panshengzi.

Downstream: Genomics is the most promising area
The downstream consumer groups include hospital patients, pharmaceutical companies and scientific research institutions. Genomics is one of the most promising areas in the future. It is widely used in agriculture, animal husbandry, ancestral origin, forensic evidence, bioenergy, and pharmaceuticals.
