Scholars from the Moscow National Institute of Steel Alloys (MISIS) of the Russian National Research University of Technology and their counterparts at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, have developed hybrid nanoparticles based on boron nitride and silver nitride (BN/Ag). And show their effects in the treatment of tumor diseases. The results of this study were published in the journal Berstein Nanotechnology.
Boron nitride-based hybrid nanomaterials are used as key components in modern biomaterials, catalysts, and next-generation sensors. This blending combines various beneficial properties: biocompatibility, robustness, thermal conductivity, chemical stability, and electrical insulation properties. This explains why they are highly efficient in the manufacture of new biomedical materials.
According to reports, such hybrid nanoparticles can be used in oncology to target delivery to tumor sites as pharmaceutical agents. Synthetic particles also demonstrate their high potency against the common bacterial E. coli strains in dirty water. Therefore, it may be practical to use the above nanoparticles to disinfect water in an emergency or during wartime.
