Look at the latest advances in scientists' research on breast cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in women. The annual incidence of breast cancer in the world increases by 0.2% to 8%, among which developing countries including China are the most rapid. About 1.4 million people worldwide are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and about 500,000 people die of the disease. In Europe and the United States, breast cancer can occur in 1 out of every 8 to 10 women. Therefore, scientists have been working to overcome breast cancer to protect the health of women around the world.

Roche test shows that drug cocktails reduce breast cancer death

On March 2, Roche announced that the Phase III APHINITY study reached its primary endpoint. The APHINITY study, treated with Herceptin+ placebo + chemotherapy, showed that Herceptin + Perjeta + chemotherapy significantly reduced the risk of recurrence or death of invasive breast cancer. Herceptin (trastuzumab) was launched in 1998. "Herceptin + chemotherapy" adjuvant therapy is effective in killing residual cells, but patients receiving this treatment still have a recurrence rate of 1/3. Perjeta (Pertuzumab) is a HER2+ monoclonal antibody introduced by Roche in 2012. Both Herceptin and Perjeta are antibodies that block HER2 function. Although the target is the same, pertuzumab and trastuzumab Unlike the binding sites of HER2, the combination can play a synergistic role. After the success of the Aphinity study, Herceptin + Perjeta is likely to be the new standard adjuvant therapy for HER2+ breast cancer patients.

Mediterranean diet or reduce breast cancer risk

On March 5th, a study published in the International Journal of Cancer showed that the Mediterranean diet significantly reduced the risk of estrogen receptor-negative (ER-negative) breast cancer in women. The research project, called the “Netherlands Lineup Research Project”, was launched in 1986. Over the past two decades, 62,573 women aged 55 to 69 have participated in the project, and researchers have recorded the participation of women in the diet. Habits and cancer prevalence, and meta-analysis concluded that women who follow Mediterranean diets will have a 32.4% reduction in the risk of breast cancer and a 2.3% reduction in breast cancer risk.

Note: The Mediterranean diet refers to a simple, light and nutritious diet that is good for health.

Can breast cancer eat soy products?

On March 6, a new study published in the journal Cancer showed that dietary soy products are safe and even beneficial for breast cancer patients. There have been many rumors about the relationship between soy products and breast cancer, the most common of which is that breast cancer is caused by estrogen. Bean products contain phytoestrogens soy isoflavones. Soy isoflavones accumulate in the human body, causing high levels of estrogen in the human body. Estrogen is high and breast cancer risk increases. To resolve the controversy, the researchers followed 6235 breast cancer patients for nine years. The results showed that patients who consumed large amounts of isoflavones had a 21% lower risk of death compared with breast cancer patients who consumed low isoflavones. This study helps resolve the controversy over the potential link between soybean and breast cancer prognosis.
