3D printing technology promotes rapid development in the medical field

Recently, the British 3D printing company Renishaw announced that it will attend the second international 3D printing medical conference held in Mainz, Germany from May 19th to 20th. It is reported that at the conference, the company will showcase its custom implants and provide a demonstration of its new implant design software (ADEPT).

It is reported that Renishaw will showcase its expertise in patient-specific implants (PSI) for craniofacial applications and explain the advantages of digital workflow. Standing on Renishaw's position, the interview will see successful examples of the company's implant technology for improving patient outcomes, including the recent neurosurgeon Bartolomé Oliver using the Renishaw AM250 metal 3D printer to make parts for craniotomy. In addition, the company will provide more cases to surgeons Shakir Mustafa and Adrian Sugar.

During the conference, Renishaw will offer a demonstration of its new award-winning software package ADEPT, which can produce custom maxillofacial implants using 3D printing by overcoming cost and efficiency barriers. The partnership combines the academic and expertise of several UK partners: LPW Technologies, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Council and PDR at Cardiff University.

Ed Littlewood, marketing manager for Renishaw Medical and Dental Products, explains: “3D printing is a technology that is rapidly evolving in many medical fields because it improves efficiency, accuracy and ease of customization. Since our first meeting last year, We are seeing an increasing interest and awareness of AM custom implants. This is what Renishaw hopes to see at the 2017 conference."

Amy Davey, a reconstruction scientist at Nanmead Hospital and Renishaw's Medical and Dental Products Division, explains: "AM patient-specific implant technology provides benefits for surgeons, hospitals, and most important patients. Implants can improve patient outcomes. To speed up the surgical procedure and have a positive impact on the hospital."
