OFweek Medical Network May 28 news, Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduced gamma-radiated non-volatile (NV) 1-Wire memory DS28E80, easy to achieve calibration and monitoring of medical sensor supplies, and It can effectively control the repeated use of disposable medical products to avoid potential health risks.

Disposable medical sensors and consumables are typically sterilized by gamma radiation, which is predictable, reliable, and fast to process, and is suitable for a wide range of product materials and packaging types. However, gamma illumination cannot be applied to semiconductor devices of conventional floating gate memory technology because gamma ray high ionizing radiation erases memory contents. The latest DS28E80 non-volatile memory can withstand gamma rays up to 75kGy (kilo-Gray), and flexible programming capabilities allow OEMs to calibrate sensors, tools and accessories for medical host devices at the production site. The device can be used to monitor and prevent unsanitary reuse of disposable medical sensors and consumables. The device uses the company's reliable 1-Wire interface, which requires only a single contact, helping consumable manufacturers save multiple long-term cables.

Main advantage
· Production calibration: OEM sensor and calibration can be automatically detected and accessories, to ensure quality.
· Use record tracking: Prevent improper access and unsanitary reuse of consumables.
Inserts identified: 1-Wire protocol embedded 64-bit serial number of the ID can not be changed, and can effectively prevent the use of unauthorized tracking supplies.
· Reprogrammable: 248 bytes of user memory, divided into 8 bytes of memory blocks
· Permanent write protection: each memory block of user memory can be flexibly configured as a write-protected
Evaluation
Patrick Weizman, principal engineer at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, said: “Gamma ray disinfection can shorten the cycle from the production floor to the distribution center by up to two weeks. Gamma ray sterilization helps reduce costs, streamlines processes, reduces duplication of effort, and shortens Production cycle."
Nathan Sharp, Business Manager of Maxim Integrated, said: "Historically, gamma rays and non-volatile storage cannot coexist, but for some disposable medical products, gamma rays may be the preferred method of sterilization. Based on this demand, we Designed with gamma-radiated non-volatile memory that is easily connected to medical host devices to reliably monitor and prevent repeated abuse of supplies, the 1-Wire interface greatly simplifies device applications."
